Week 1 — peak swelling and rest
Days 0–2: Swelling builds and peaks around 48–72 hours. The face looks fuller than baseline, not slimmer. This is normal and not a sign of failed surgery. Pain is typically mild (paracetamol and the prescribed analgesic handle it). Soft food only, head elevated for sleep, salt-water rinses 4–5x daily.
Days 3–5: Swelling begins to subside. Bruising minimal (if any) because the surgery is intraoral. Light walking around the hotel is fine. Most patients describe these days as "comfortable but a bit boring."
Days 6–7: Swelling visibly reducing. The face starts to look closer to baseline. Light social activity is reasonable for patients who don't mind being slightly puffy in photos. International patients typically fly home on day 5–7.
Week 2 — visible improvement
Most external swelling has resolved by mid-week 2. The cheek may still feel slightly firm internally — this is normal soft tissue healing, not lingering swelling.
The "I look the same" moment often happens this week. Patients look in the mirror and think the surgery didn't work. Almost always temporary — by week 4-6, change is clearly visible.
Activities resumed: normal diet (still avoiding very hard or crunchy foods), gentle exercise (walking, light cardio), normal work, normal social activity.
Weeks 3–4 — first glimpse of the result
Internal soft tissue continues to remodel. The cheek tissue begins to redistribute and "settle" into the new contour. By week 4, most patients can see the visible change in three-quarter view photos compared to pre-op.
The change at this point is approximately 60% of the final result. Front view changes are typically less visible than three-quarter view at this stage.
Activities: full normal exercise (including weight training), full diet. No remaining restrictions for most patients.
Weeks 5–8 — clear visible change
By week 8, most patients describe seeing "their actual face" emerging. The mid-cheek slimming is clearly visible. The cheekbone area may appear slightly more prominent due to relative contrast.
Internal scar tissue has formed and is beginning to soften. The cheek may feel slightly firm when palpated — this gradually resolves over months 3–6.
Months 3–4 — most of the result is visible
Roughly 85% of the final result is visible by 3 months. Many patients consider this their "real after" photo for portfolio purposes.
Soft tissue has fully redistributed. Scar tissue continues to soften. The cheek feels more natural to the touch.
This is also a good point for follow-up consultation (remote, via WhatsApp photo for international patients) to confirm healing is proceeding well.
Months 5–6 — final result
By 6 months, the result is stable and represents the long-term outcome. Internal scar tissue is fully matured and soft. The cheek feels and moves naturally. Final photographs show the complete change.
Subsequent change is due to weight changes or natural aging, not from the surgery itself.
Year 1 and beyond
The 12-month and 2-year follow-up photos are useful for documentation but typically show the same result as the 6-month photos. The surgical effect is stable.
Natural aging continues. Patients who chose conservative resection typically age gracefully, with the slimmed mid-cheek appearance maintaining over time. Patients who chose aggressive resection may begin to see hollowing develop in years 5+.
Frequently asked questions
Can I exercise during recovery?
Walking is fine from day 1. Light cardio from day 7. Full normal exercise from week 2. Contact sports avoided for 4 weeks.
When can I fly home?
We ask international patients to stay 5+ nights post-surgery. Most fly home on day 5 or 6. Long-haul flights are fine — wear compression socks, stay well hydrated.
When can I drink alcohol?
Avoid for the first week (affects healing and may interact with medications). Light alcohol is fine after week 2. Heavy drinking is never advised but particularly to be avoided for the first month.
